all 10mm glocks

All 10mm Glocks - Right off the bat, I'd call this the F-350 of handguns. This is a ridiculous amount of pistol for most everyday users and is not typically carried around town. It's just awkward. But, there's a reason the F350 is made when there are users who know what it takes to get a good job done. It can be heavy loads, long distance transport or just *ss transport.

The G40 Gen4 in MOS configuration is chambered in 10mm and combines a full 6-inch barrel for improved velocity with a magazine capacity of 15 rounds. The G40 Gen4 in MOS configuration is a powerful yet easy-to-carry pistol; Perfect for outdoorsmen, hunters and sports shooters. This pistol is designed to give the hunter the ultimate option in a semi-automatic game pistol and has proven more than capable of taking on game such as whitetail deer, Russian boar and even feral hogs.

The new Glock handgun cases are a big step forward, but I would argue that the G40 ups the ante. When it was opened, the contents almost fell out of the case. All going back to the case, be sure to brush up on one's Tetris skills.

I expected the Glock to be heavy given its size, but it was a gentle monster at over 28 ounces. Now I wouldn't call it graceful, even for its size. When unloaded, the gun is front-heavy from the long-slide, but starts to balance out when loading the magazine (about 40 ounces). I didn't find it to be a suitable neutral for extended shooting sessions until the red dot peaked.

The grip itself is huge. Those with smaller hands don't need to adjust, even without the back strap. My wife, who can hold a 179mm medium back-stripe, found it difficult to get a firm grip and reach the trigger at the same time. My medium-sized hands found the smallest setting the most comfortable, but the medium-sized rear strap felt the most supportive as I grip the gun and slide high. Unlike other Glock competition-oriented handguns, the G40 does not have an extended slide stop.

I'm sure it will be mentioned a few more times, but for transfer purposes, it's a Glock Gen 4. The grip has a finger groove (which works for me), a square textured grip pattern (which I also like), a large and reversible magazine release, and a very shallow undercut on the trigger guard for the middle finger. It comes with the standard adjustable Glock sights (which work, but are terrible) and interestingly, the rear sight actually overhangs the rear of the slide a bit. Not sure if this is a technical oversight, but it's annoying for "perfection".

The MOS system or "Modular Optic System" is a recent and I find wonderful addition to the Glock family. Introduced with the G40 and 9mm/.40 smaller relatives, this is a factory optical mounting cut into the slides. It's not innovative because the aftermarket has been doing it for years, but it's useful and actually helps "perfection" get closer to perfection.

Author's Note- It was disappointing that the PFI optic shipped separately from Pride Fowler was not compatible with the MOS system. When set up for a single cartridge, the optic sits too far forward to nest in the gun's slide as intended. I got my hands on a Trijicon Mini-Dot to test the MOS system (not pictured).

Typically, those who want the functionality either have to buy an aftermarket slide, send it for milling, or use an adapter plate that sets the optic higher. Doing this in a factory has at least some advantages. When already loaded into the milling machine, adding cuts is easier and cheaper, the cut-out area can be coated rather than exposed, and ensures tighter tolerances than individual machine loads.

The MOS mounting area is just in front of the adjustable rear sight. When shipped, it comes with a flush and profiled plate that fits the slide. Blending is excellent and only those with dense or gun eyes will notice that it can accept the optic. The plate is held with two torque head screws and easily removes to mount the optic. Mount to slide adapter plate and select optics on adapter plate. Voila.

Once mounted, it brings another grip. There are very few factory locations for any kind of co-witnessing. Another observation from Glock, given the cost of injection molding. I know there are a lot of aftermarket systems out there, but at least Glock could have tried.

Mm Vs. 44 Magnum

If one has shot a 10mm before, there is nothing really remarkable about the Glock's performance. The cartridge, to me, is just like its daughter the .40 S&W. There is some snap on the recoil, which helps create a double spring and a heavy slide, but not so much that I could move on to another paragraph.

Accuracy remains normal for my ability with a Glock, but the longer sight radius helped tighten it up a bit, using iron sights (Freedom Munitions 180 grain RNFP) at 15 yards (I usually shoot about 2″ with the G19). By adding an optic (provided by PFI – detailed review to come later), I was able to narrow it down a bit more, shooting 2.0″ at 25 yards.

Like almost every review written on Glock, the trigger is long, soft and solid Glock. However, I am not a fan of this because Glock chose to remove the serrations found on their other handguns. It really emphasizes the passive safety, which after about three magazines started causing discomfort in my trigger finger. After about 100 rounds I completely rejected it. Of course personal preference will rule the day, but this is a Glock that needs an aftermarket booger-switch, in my opinion.

Aside from the trigger, the MOS system really shines on the handgun. As Glocks intended, the addition of optics makes this a "long" range handgun with true hunting capabilities. For older eyes or just quick target acquisition on moving targets, the red dot shines on the handgun. With both excellent trigger control and a good bang switch, the G40 can and does live up to Glock's claims for an excellent hunting weapon.

How Many Rounds Does A Glock Hold?

However, I would note that long barrel handloads need to be maximized. The factory 10mm load is "custard".

Author's Note: While the Glock specifically rejects the practice, the better slide to powder-load mass ratio makes shooting the .40 S&W through the 10mm just as comfortable, if not more comfortable. Glock says this voids your warranty and causes a round to be fired outside the proper distance. TFB and I do not recommend doing this at home.

The problem with looking at Glocks is that they are Glocks. There is never much news about them, so writers keep searching for prose. This is no different. The G40 Gen 4 is a Glock, which is huge. This is a great handgun for anyone who wants or needs a 10mm. If you don't need the 10mm, the trade-off to go there with the larger grip and larger size isn't worth it in my opinion.

On the other hand, the MOS optic mounting system is much appreciated and a solid step forward for the notoriously conservative Glock company. With simple plates to mount on any micro-red-dot imaginable (not just PFI), it's a versatile system that worked well, though I'm curious to see how different red-dot systems handle increased recoil.

Victory First V43 & Atei's 10mm Roland Special

Ultimately, the combination of the two makes this novel Glock. It is a true hand cannon with a 6″ long barrel (although one must reload to take full advantage of this length). Plus, it's reliable, the trigger is rugged, and it can mount a red-dot sight without looking for an aftermarket slide or mounting accessory.

So, if you want that much of a gun, it's a solid super-duty. If you don't need this gun, go with the smaller option, you'll be happier.

I purchased a G20 from a Glock store over a year ago and it has been a fantastic sidearm for use on my farm in NW Colorado. I have full confidence in their ability to handle any situation that may arise in this rural area. Recoil and muzzle jump are very manageable with Winchester silver tips. For larger hunters, this is a top shelf sidearm.

I've heard it's the best weapon for the increasing number of bear encounters I've had since trout fishing last year.

Field stripping is a bit difficult with short release slides - loading magazines by hand is difficult.

I've since had a retro-installed release 'bar' installed, which makes it much easier to clean
