Alien Pistol Cost - The Laugo Alien is one of the most famous pistols released in recent years. Designed to give the shooter maximum mechanical advantage when shooting, the Alien packs many rare pistol features into a stylish package. However, the cost of all this is extremely high: Alien is estimated at around $5,000.
Everything about the Alien seems to be designed to make the gun fire flat, fast and with low recoil. The barrel is placed in the lower half of the long end of the weapon to completely minimize the barrel axis. This is unusual, most pistols including the Glock, Sig Sauer and H&K place the barrel in the top half of the bolt, with the return spring under the barrel. In Alien, the return spring is above the barrel. The barrel is also attached to the frame; The Alien relies on a gas-delayed blowback system similar to the H&K P7 to reduce the speed at which the slide moves backwards. The fixed barrel allows it to "free float" in the frame for better accuracy.

The Alien "glide" itself is also greatly reduced in weight. Unlike most pistols, the slide only covers the sides and back of the pistol. This keeps the top stationary during the firing cycle, allowing crosshairs to be tracked during firing. The reduced slide profile also reduces reciprocating mass, resulting in less, smoother recoil thrust. The fixed top frame also takes advantage of the red dots, which are subject to much less stress on the Alien than other weapons. The partial bolt design is reminiscent of the Wolf Ultramatic SV, another similar pistol with a fixed sight and a limited roller-locking alternative breech.

The rest of the weapon is pretty standard. The frame is shaped similarly to other modern racing pistols, with a similar grip angle, a large recess behind the trigger guard, and an easily accessible magazine release and bolt lock. The weapon is striker-fired, possibly due to the lower mechanical complexity required to make a striker-fired weapon with a very low diameter shaft. Safety is maintained with the use of internal safety and Glock style trigger safety.
By most accounts, Alien succeeds at what it sets out to do. Shooter reports indicate that it fires very flat with very little recoil. But it has some drawbacks due to advanced systems. As with the H&K P7, the gas-delayed recoil system causes the frame to heat up quickly during long trails, sometimes requiring the shooter to change the gun's grip. Cost is also a big factor. Perhaps one of the most comparable pistols to the Laugo Alien, the Wolf Ultramatic SV cost a similar amount upon release in the US and failed. The Wolf, however, had reliability issues. If the Alien can beat its price and quirks to sell well, it could be one of the most innovative weapons around. But until then, it risks falling into oblivion, like many other "different" pistols before it.

We'll evaluate the Laugo Alien pistol to determine - if one is in the habit of making mind-bogglingly extravagant financial decisions - just how stupid it can be. Let me give an introduction and even a conclusion in advance: I am happy to report, as one of the common people lucky and/or stupid enough to acquire the Laugo Alien Signature Edition Pistol, that its claim to fame is well founded.
The design effect of this exotic weapon is not magical. If you can't shoot a $500 gun, then you won't be able to shoot a bean worth your salt either. That said, Laugo Alien is… surreal. Rewards good technique surprisingly well without the need for a compensator or barrel portability.
According to its designers, the recoil vector is directed almost directly into the net of a strong hand. With proper forearm strength and technique and a little practice, a skilled marksman can hold a scope throughout the recoil. I mean, once you get the hang of it, a pretty weird experience, especially on a gun that doesn't vertically vent.
Laugo Arms' Alien Pistol Is Completely Different
My rate of fire groups were much smaller than my groups with other pistols for any given rate of fire... on the order of 50% tighter. As fast as I could pull the trigger with an amateur's finger, I couldn't get a headshot on a standard seven-yard silhouette.
The Laugo Alien feels like a pistol in your hand, but the rate of fire is more like a carbine. Again, this is not because the weapon necessarily "makes things easier", not because it replaces good technique, but because it rewards you when you do your job as a precision instrument should. This is something I've never experienced in the same way, except with a rifle.
My results with Laugo Alien on a slow fire were also dramatic. The gun rewarded me for eliminating a very small angle in the trigger vector by moving the point of impact twenty feet from a quarter inch left of the target to center.
I don't have the devices to determine the accuracy of this weapon. With a simple regenerated FMJ and a red dot, I couldn't see any seven-yard scatters. Provided my technique was correct, the bullet hit exactly where the center of the dot was when it broke, less than a millimeter from the center. It's as accurate as a rifle.

I hired some less experienced shooters, some experienced with rifles and shotguns but less experienced with pistols, and even some new to shooting to help me test it out. We observed that any improvement a marksman made to their technique dramatically reduced group size in rapid fire and noticeably improved shot placement in slow fire. It's just good.
I'll note here the nature of the Alien's felt recoil. Others have rightly said that such a small diameter shaft results in a strong recoil thrust. The hand, wrist and arm absorb all the impact, unlike larger diameter pistols which transfer the recoil at least partially to the hand in the form of a rotational motion.
With the Alien, you feel the recoil like a web hit in your hand, not a vertical torque. Think of the difference in recoil between a Beretta 92 (or other larger caliber pistol) and a relatively low axis pistol like the GLOCK. Alien is GLOCK in this comparison, only much, much more.
The Alien's recoil momentum isn't unpleasant for handguns, thanks to its weight, the strength of the working springs,
