Innovation Brought The Rise Of The Glock Handgun
In 1963, an Austrian engineer and businessman named Gaston Glock founded Glock as a manufacturer of injection molding parts and components such as shower curtain rods and rings. Later in the 1970s, Glock began producing military products such as knives, grenade launchers, and machine gun belt links. Fast forward to the 80's and mr. Glock designed the first handgun for the Austrian army. Unique aspects of this pistol beyond the polymer frame and high-capacity magazine were the three internal magazines.
Gaston Glock designed his pistol with a trigger, firing pin and drop safeties - something that had not been done before. The Glock 17 passed NATO's durability tests in 1984 and the rest is history for what is arguably the most popular type of handgun of all time. Before we get too deep into this, a fun fact is that the designation of Glock pistols is the patent number. Let's get into the different generations of Glock!

.45 Jap. Have you heard of the .45 GAP? Most people don't. Here is a little background. In 2003, a collaboration between Glock and Ernest Durham created a .45 round intended to replace the .45 ACP for law enforcement, but in a size that can be run in 9mm platforms. The idea was that officers with smaller hands could still fire a .45-caliber round in a smaller rifle. Unfortunately, while the .45 GAP has been adopted by many agencies and achieved excellent results, many gun companies have begun making smaller 9mm platforms that can provide the same stopping power with hotter 9mm loads. This caused the .45 GAP to wear out a bit. Today, Glock offers three models in .45 GAP; 37 full-size, 38 compact, and 39 compact.

If you are new to the Glock, you may be dismayed by the fact that no Glock model has an external safety such as a grip safety or thumb safety.
The trigger safety is a small lever that prevents the trigger from being pulled unless direct, appropriate pressure is applied. It's easy to be your trigger finger, but harder if nothing else.
